Extractions

Dental extractions are a common procedure to remove a tooth. Extractions may be necessary for a variety of reasons, including decay, gum disease, fracture, or dental trauma. In the case of wisdom teeth, extractions may be required to keep these teeth from impacting the surrounding teeth.

While we will do all we can to preserve your natural tooth, sometimes an extraction is necessary to maintain your oral health or the integrity of other teeth. If this is the case, our dentist will provide safe and stress-free tooth extractions in the comfort of our office.

The Tooth Extraction Procedure

Tooth extractions are designed to relieve tooth pain or remove a tooth that is causing dental problems. In many cases, we can complete a simple extraction in 20-40 minutes. Before the procedure begins, we will numb the tooth area and ensure you are comfortable with additional sedation if necessary. Next, our dentist will gently remove the tooth from the socket. Over the next several hours, the area will form a blood clot, the first stage of healing.

The healing process after a tooth extraction will take a few days, with your gum tissue fully healing in 3-4 weeks. During this time, you will need to limit the types of food and drink you consume as well as physical exercise. We will provide you with all post-operative instructions to help ensure a fast and safe recovery.
